Frosty Does Things His Own Way

I thought we'd wrap up our time in the blind pasture with a visit to someone who has taught me a pretty important lesson about rescue. Our sweet Frosty. ❤️

Frosty is our blind donkey, and after spending so much time with him, we suspect he may have experienced some kind of neurological injury as well. But that just makes him all the more special to us.

Now, Frosty is not your typical affectionate donkey. He doesn't want a bunch of friends, he doesn't want to be fussed over, and he certainly doesn't need me loving on him all day. He wants his food, someone to talk to him, a little affection every now and then, and otherwise he'd prefer to be left alone!

And you know what? He's perfectly happy.

When I first started rescuing animals, I had all these ideas about what they needed to be happy. I thought Frosty needed constant attention and other donkeys around him. But he's shown me something completely different.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that you have to let the animals tell you what they need, even when it's the opposite of what you imagined for them.

Frosty chose this pasture himself, and he's perfectly content doing his own thing. He's healthy, he's safe, and he's living life exactly how he wants to.

I guess it's a little like parenting, except I have almost 100 kids! 😂

I hope you've enjoyed spending time with us in the blind pasture. It's such a special place, and every animal here has their own story, personality, and way of showing us what happiness looks like. ❤️
